Jan 21st – 27th

This week the big deal fun thing we think is probably the Global Game Jam at Another Castle!

We’ve got it down below but you can register at
https://globalgamejam.org/2019/jam-sites/another-castle to participate! It’s two straight days of fun times where you work on a game start to finish in a short time. Usually the things that come out of game jams are strange, unfinished, and fascinating. It’s definitely worth heading over there even if you don’t feel like you’re a “game designer”. You can always contribute!

Here’s a brief Q&A:

Q: Do I need a team to participate?
A: No! In fact forming teams prior to the event is discouraged. Teams will be formed during the game jam.

Q: Do I need skills to participate?
A: It’s best if you have some skills in either art, programming, audio, or game design, but everyone is welcome.

Q: What if I already have a game idea?
A: You can make any game you want, but the Global Game Jam has a secret theme that is announced at 5pm Friday. It’s often a fun and rewarding design challenge to consider the theme.

Q: What if I want to make a board game instead of a digital game?
A: Non-digital games are perfectly acceptable. We’ll have some supplies available.

Q: Do I need to register on globalgamejam.org to participate?
A: Yes! Everyone must register, and registration is free:
http://globalgamejam.org/user/register
List Another Castle as your site

Q: What if my question isn’t answered here?
A: E-mail the Game Jam Organizers or review the official Global Game Jam FAQ page.

Go check out the Valley Creators page! As always, be sure to check out our Patreon! There are a lot of fun things happening this and every week! And don’t forget to check out the updated Book Clubs List!

Wednesday Games – Bikes!
“Well, it appears winter finally decided to rear it’s frost-covered head and boy has the cold found us! I can’t think of a better way to warm up than a quick race in the Tour de France! This week, I’ll be featuring Flamme Rouge! Flamme Rouge is a fast-paced, tactical bicycle racing game where each player controls a team of two riders: a Rouleur and a Sprinteur. The players’ goal is to be the first to cross the finish line with one of their riders. Players move their riders forward by drawing and playing cards from that riders specific deck, depleting it as they go. Use slipstreams to avoid exhaustion and position your team for a well timed sprint for the win. This one has been on my radar for ages and I can’t wait to play it with you all! As always, we’ll have an utterly gratuitous number of other games as well.”

Wednesday, January 23rd
Forbes Library [20 West St, Northampton, MA 01060] at 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM
Film: Constructing the Terrorist Threat
“Constructing the Terrorist Threat: Islamophobia, the Media and the War on Terror looks at how Muslims have become the predominant face of terror in U.S. news and entertainment media — even though terror attacks by white extremists have far outnumbered attacks by Muslim Americans since 9/11.Arguing that racialized threats have long been used to induce moral panics and advance anti-democratic policies, the film explores how ruling elites have been raising the specter of Arab and Islamic terror since the 1970s to justify militarism, war, and curbs on civil liberties. From the Iran-Hostage Crisis in 1979 to the “war on terror” after 9/11 to the rise of ISIS today, prominent scholar Deepa Kumar argues that Americans have been taught to fear Muslims out of all proportion to reality, presenting a wealth of eye-opening data about the actual threat level posed by Muslim terrorists in the United States.
