May 26th – June 2nd

We were just told about the Western MA Living Adventure Game Club! “Living Adventure Games are immersive, participatory programs that inspire kids to experience a setting and interact with that setting first-hand. This format gives kids agency over certain aspects of the game and encourages a deeper level of learning, understanding, and skills practice because the participants are a part of the game itself. Mastermind Adventures Living Adventure Clubs provide an infrastructure and support for small groups who want to have their own game that participants have agency over and can contribute to.” Sounds like a solid time for any children in your life!

We finished Sunless Skies! We managed to actually have one of our captains not die from a crew mutiny, angry singing bees, guardians of the realm of the dead, soul eaters, alien dreadnaughts, starvation, the Queen, pirates, or invisible beings that emerge from black holes! It was a hell of a run and while the game is what we would conservatively call “way too long”, it was still a great way to see interesting writing wrapped in a pretty solid little space-trader game.

Then we bought and finished Dandara, which is a neat action platformer where up is arbitrary, always aligned to wherever you’re standing. It is maybe slightly too into being sorta Dark Souls-y in a way that we don’t think actually wound up being fun. But once we powered up significantly and just blasted around the neat arbitrary-gravity rooms it was a bunch of fun. Also it’s super pretty so that was nice. Also blessedly short, more games need to clock in at like 4-6 hours.

Our official Game of Thrones finale review: We had more fun grousing with pals about how WE would have written it than we did watching it, but that was a lot of fun so overall we rate it a good experience. Sometimes grousing is fun!
