August 26th – Sep 1st

Mob Psycho 100 is a very fun anime, and we recommend it. Starts strong, has interesting and vibrant animation, and generally treats all the characters like worthwhile people.

Also, we’ve been having fun playing the puzzle game Q.U.B.E and its sequel: Q.U.B.E 2. They’re both basically “what if Portal had a different central mechanic?” but also they do that pretty dang well. A good set of puzzles where you tend to either blitz through a room or stand there for 10 minutes thinking until you get an epiphany.

The only thing that’s unfortunate is that the frame narrative is really odd because while the gameplay is “a series of tests, presented as puzzles”, the narrative acts like this obviously interlocking set of steadily harder puzzles isn’t happening. It just sort of treats it like you’ve been climbing through the place or something. Not terrible, but probably more due to the fact that they didn’t want to be accused of ripping off Portal than the fact that they 100% wanted to do this particular narrative.

And finally, check out Magestry’s first event of the Autumn season, the weekend of September 6th – 8th! It’s going to be a lot of fun, and it’s only $40 to attend! Plus, if you really want to attend but don’t have the cash, you can always attend for any amount of time over the weekend for FREE as an NPC! There’s no reason NOT to go to for more details!
